Section Results and Flohaug goes to State

We just returned from the Section 7 Alpine Championships at Giants Ridge. It was a good couple days up North ski racing and representing Centennial / Spring Lake Park Alpine. Thank you to the Booster Club and all the parents for your help pulling everything together. It is all much appreciated by the athletes and the coaches.

It was a beautiful day at Giants Ridge with partly cloudy skies, low to mid 30's, and a bit of wind especially in the morning. The snow was fantastic, and the courses held up really well from start to finish. The course sets were straight forward and appropriate for the competition and terrain.

Our boys team finished in 8thplace out of 19 teams, and our girls team finished in 4thplace out of 18 teams. For Sections, the top 4 skiers for each team earn points. Linked here are the printed results as it's a large file: Section 7 Results

We had a smooth morning with all 12 racers putting down clean runs to start the day. It really helped set the tone for the second run after lunch.

Bruce Johnson was in 18 place going into the second run where he had a slip halfway down the Helsinki pitch and slid out. He quickly recovered and was able to step on the gas for the rest of the run - finishing overall in 27th place. Luke Lofgren skied two smooth runs to a 30th place finish. A great way to wrap up his rookie year on the team as a Senior. Owen Crandall had good runs with his deep angles on the pitch and some crucial recoveries and adjustments. He finished in 35th place. Tyler McDew scored 58 points for the team by skiing two clean runs placing him in 44th place. Danny Schooley was not far behind after getting aggressive on the pitches and finishing in 46th. Jackson Copiskey went for it both runs. On his second run towards the bottom his feet got caught up in the double hairpin and he had a little hike - but was still able to finish in 60thplace overall.

For the girls, Jordin Flohaug threw down the fifth fastest time for second run ending in 8th place overall and qualifying for the MSHSL State Alpine Championships next week! Brooke Halverson wrapped up an incredibly consistent season with a top 20 finish - in 19th place. Kalli Halatsis had two nice runs placing her in 37th place. Katie Toensing had a fantastic day coming in 41st place and earning 55 points for the team. Annie Trettel's second run bumped her up from 59th place to 50th overall. Emily Stokkeland was 54th after the first run. On her second run she was charging down the pitch on Innsbruck when her downhill ski pre-released causing a double ejection DNF. She skied up to the coaches after with a smile and mentioned how much fun she had racing that course.

It was a fun ride home for all four coaches reflecting on the race and the season so far as a whole. I think today speaks for a lot of positive energy and direction our team has going. There has been a lot of hard work and progression from everyone, and it's been a lot of fun.

We shift gears now planning for State next week and supporting Jordin. I'll be sure to keep everyone in the loop on next week's race so we can all cheer on Jordin as she travels back to Giants Ridge to represent CHS / SLP Alpine in the big race.
